Vengeance Ascending

Metal Observer
“I know. "Subterraneal Magnitude", their precedent album, has been released only a few weeks ago, and here comes already "Vengeance Ascending". So let me please insist on one point, this is in no way an album containing demos, rare or live tracks, but their brand new studio album, coming very close after the last one due to license changes. Anyway we don't give a shit about those problems. DIABOLIC is one of the best Death Metal-bands in the world, that makes us forget the death of ANGEL CORPSE, and they can release ten albums in a year if they feel like it. Anyway, "Vengeance Ascending" is even better than "Subterraneal Magnitude" (that's possible, yes!), still between MORBID ANGEL and ANGEL CORPSE, and kicks some ass. By the way, their drummer Aantar is very impressive, very fast on double-bass, and very precise, too.”

“Though Obituary may be gone and Deicide is floundering Satan-knows-where, the Florida scene is alive and well in the shape of Diabolic, a gruesome four piece playing old school Satanic Death Metal.
And what an unholy racket it is too, the likes of which hasn't been heard since the early '90's. 'Darken the imagination' kicks us off typical style, all grunts and screams and blast-beats and frantic leads and hyper-rhythms, the way vintage satanic death metal should be played. From 'All evils inside' to 'The Shallowed' to 'Celestial pleasures' (a homage to that most misunderstood of careers, porno) to closer 'Majestic Satanic', Diabolic play a primitive form of death metal that hardcore fans of the genre will lap up. The musicianship is excellent, especially the drumming of Aantar "Blastmaster" Coates, and the leads from Brian Malone and Jerry Mortellaro are tuneful and memorable, which is more than can be said about the majority of DM bands out there. As for vocalist/bassist Paul Quellette, let's just say he does an adequate job of frightening little children with bedtime stories of demons and devils.”

This punishing album sports some mighty tasty guitar solos. No, I’m not talking about the old James Murphy style. There’s just an un-definable element that makes the guitar work so fiendishly delicious. At times there are slow notes that ring out in pain, and other times there are the faster scales that hammer the fretboard mercilessly. Relentless aggression dominates the mood of this amazingly dynamic death metal, so don’t listen to it if you are undergoing anger management therapy.

Only few months after an excellent album "Subterraneal Magnitude", Diabolic released the new CD and again this is an absolutely brilliant material. The band from Florida took place in the death metal elite already after debut CD "Supreme Evil", representing everything what is best in brutal music. "Subterraneal..." turned out to be even a better album. It was a pure essence of ravishing speed and devastating brutality, based on great technical skills and real talent to write remarkable and full of hate riffs. It seemed to be almost impossible that Diabolic would be able to record better material - so incredible level was achieved on "Subterraneal". But for this quartet there are no limits. "Vengeance Ascending" devastates and crushes with enormous strength since first seconds till the end. Members of the band become better and better musicians. Their abilities to compose original tracks are amazing. When Diabolic started playing many people were talking that it was another band that went the same way as Morbid Angel. Such opinions are correct when we think about the level of playing, but taking into consideration the originality of all three albums it must be said that Diabolic created own style, better than 99% of everything what had been done before. Only few albums in the history of death metal can be called the milestone of this kind of music. "Vengeance..." is one of these masterpieces.

This album far surpasses any of their previous albums, and actually passes many Death Metal acts out there. Drummer Aantar "Blastmaster" is one fucking mad man, some of the best drumming I've heard in a long time in the genre. The music is fast, faster than anything before they've done. The production is sort of like HATE ETERNAL and KRISIUN, and those are also 2 good musical comparisons. Very fast, ripping, technical Death Metal with some slow groovy parts. DIABOLIC are by far way ahead of their peers such as CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE and MALEVOLENT CREATION, DIABOLIC is NWOFDM (New Wave Of Florida Death Metal). They are without a doubt one of the best acts out there that earns every penny they get.

Subterraneal Magnitude

DIABOLIC is offering to us is made for me! With deadly precision theses Floridians are shredding through 35 minutes of brilliant Death. The riffs are mighty and more often than not remind me of the Florida-godz MORBID ANGEL. They are thrashing like madmen, but never over a whole song. Especially the slow-paced parts are heavy as hell! The grunts also have class, unlike most other Death-acts! The production cuts marble, I am sure, it is more than razor-sharp! A really outstanding album in the extreme sector, no doubt!

Florida natives Diabolic have always been a favorite of mine. From their earliest works on "City of the Dead" to their latest "Vengeance Ascending", they can always deliver great guitar work and memorable songs. This, however, is my favorite of all of their 4 albums. The guitar dueling and collaboration of Brian Malone and Jerry Mortellaro is what defines the Diabolic sound to me. These 2 guys write some sinister melodies, as heard in tracks like "Extinction Level Event" and "Necromancer of The Ancient Arts". The soloing is also top-notch, with tons of quick tapping and dive bombing. Drummer Aantar Coates rips his kit up with huge rolls and fast blasting. "Subterraneal Magnitude", on the other hand, was recorded with a much more natural sound and balanced levels, and is a great listen from the instrumental intro "Vassago" to the closing title track. I think that Diabolic has earned a few more fans, as well, after having toured North America with heavyweights Krisiun, Cryptopsy and Dimmu Borgir a while back.

Eleven songs of solidly played, fast, technical Death Metal.

This album is the second for the guys from Florida and once again, just as in their debut, we couldn't help but like it. Once again, they are playing a very aggressive and brutal Death metal, performed in the good old fashioned American way. What left us amazed before everything else, is the ability of the band to play super fast and also much slower and melodic, proving that they are excellent musicians. The second thing is the drummer, this guy really rules. Once again, their inspiration from mid 80's Thrash bands is more than obvious, specially from Possessed, but again Possessed have inspired almost everyone into Death Metal of today. Their music has a great mix of 80's Thrash with the most modern and brutal Death Metal, all wrapped up into a very nice package, that guarantees to blow your mind. The vocals are excellent and are fitting perfectly in the music, giving an extra power to it. A good and very strong production helps filling the last details on this absolute masterpiece of violence. In case you haven't notice, Diabolic are the next big thing and this album proves it.

Pure death metal. I can't tell you how good it is to get CD after CD in the mail of bands plying their trade in pure, sick, noisy, heavy and BRUTAL damn it BRUTAL old-school death metal. Heavy metal delivered with this level of intensity is never anything less than killer. From the death growls to the technical yet blenderified guitars, to the rhythm section which sounds like it is pounding nails into your coffin, this is what death metal is supposed to sound like. If you want a comparison think Florida style ala MONSTROSITY, which is only fitting since the two bands share a label.

Supreme Evil

Teutelstomb.com
“Just when you thought Florida dropped out of the game of spitting out the classics, Diabolic shatters the doubt with a devastating debut CD from this unholy Florida ensemble. An absolute masterpiece of drum, guitar, bass, and vocal terror. Diabolic was formed in 1997 and immediately released their first demo cassette entitled City Of The Dead, which chalked up some very nice reviews from 'zines around the world. Their follow-up full length entitled Supreme Evil does its name justice. Guitar structures carefully pieced with intricate drumming display Diabolic's mastery of evil death metal. The drumming on this CD is nothing short of incredible, as it varies from slow, marching beats to unbelievably speedy blasts. The guitars blend a thrashy chugging with epic melodies as the mid-ranged vocals scatter atop the blistering frenzy. Supremely crushing, Diabolic is a fierce reminder that the sheer supremacy of Florida death metal will never be forgotten. What do you expect? It's hot as fuck down here! The humidity alone is reason enough to beat and rape a 4-year-old-girl whilst wearing a 3-day-old diaper. Shit! Fuck you!”

“Brutal, yet memorable, evil Death Metal, which is helped by its outstanding production.”

“For those of you who don't know Diabolic: This is an American band who plays high quality Death Metal. A perfect grunt, songs with enough variation to keep it interesting and nice clean guitar solo's.”

Himnosrituales.com
“Diabolic continues delivering impressive American death metal. Ultra-fast drumming, heavy rhythms and brutal vocals.
All 32 minutes of “supreme evil " are a big dose of satanic death metal. I would define their music perhaps as a mixture of Monstrosity and Immolation.”

Metal-guide.com
“When the band's name is DIABOLIC and the CD's title is "Supreme Evil" what do you expect? Probably neither some OASIS clones nor a new FM hip-hop crap. You 'got it! This is demonic Death Metal the American way, a total blast of evil Metal violence. Mostly influenced from bands as POSSESSED (listen to the guitar solos), MORBID ANGEL and ...do you need more? The members of the bands are VERY good musicians (don't fuKKing laugh! It's true!) and all the tracks are really deadly. Our friends from the States already know this CD since 1999 but now it's time for European Deathsters to be demonized. "Supreme Evil" is re-released for Europe!”

Chaotic Webzine #8
Well the name of the game is however brutal death metal hailing from Florida, featuring members with the past behind from other pretty well known bands on the underground level. Anyway it is kind obvious their backgrounds definitely have reflections on the material of the debut Diabolic output as they definitely know how to pen speed and straightforward stuff without loosing the control in the blasting maelstrom.

The Throne Of Absence
They possess the mighty U.S. Death Metal skills that made MORBID ANGEL and IMMOLATION what they are now, but this album also fits next to early albums of OBITUARY, MONSTROSITY, SUFFO-CATION, MALEVOLENT CREATION.

ROTTING CORPSE REVIEW

DIABOLIC "Vengeance Ascending" Olympic Recordings Format: Full Length CD: From Florida DIABOLIC stretch the boundries of extreme speed and fury with their 3rd full length release "Vengeance Ascending". Wrapping the listener into a cyclone of seemingly endless double kicks and blast beats wicked in the mold of MORBID ANGEL. The riffs work hard for the musicians not the other way around. Raging death metal chaos that does not try to be anything but what it is, pure evil! DIABOLIC paves savage guitar structures that will crush any christian or at least convert the fuck into a Satan Worshipper. Staying with the old sound and style of classic slaughtering Floridian death metal but bringing their own extension into the mix. This is an extremely intense CD hands down. 10 Impalements out of 10
